How Kind to Me handles your data.
The short version
Your words and your voice stay on your device. Kind to Me works local-first. There are no advertising SDKs and no remote behavioural tracking. Signing in uses a free account, and your affirmations and recordings are not sent to JPott Studios. When the app's optional server configuration is present, Kind to Me can send anonymous usage counts how often a feature is used, plus app version and platform, tied to a random per-install tag that is not linked to any account or person. These counts never include your affirmations, recordings, favourites, name, or location. This is on by default, can be turned off any time in Settings, and happens at most once per day.
Network processing happens only when a feature that needs it is used, verifying a purchase with the app store, or optional encrypted sync if you turn it on.
What Kind to Me stores on your device
The app keeps the following in private app storage on your phone:
- Favourites and the categories you choose
- Personal affirmations you write
- Voice recordings you make
- Reminder choices and your tone setting
- Practice history and speech preferences
- A profile photo, if you add one
- Theme, onboarding state, and widget data
- Local activity counters used to power your own progress display
These counters power your own progress display. When the app's optional server configuration is present, only anonymous totals of them may be shared, as described above, never your affirmations, recordings, or profile.
Voice recordings
Kind to Me can record an affirmation in your own voice. A recording is created only after you grant microphone permission and then deliberately start recording. Background recording is not enabled.
Recordings are saved as audio files in the app's private storage on your device. Optional sync does not upload those audio files, see below. The one way a recording leaves your device is if you export a backup yourself.
Optional encrypted sync
Sync is optional and off unless you turn it on. The core app never requires it.
If you enable sync, an account email address and authentication records are processed by the sync provider so the service knows the records are yours. Your favourites, your personal affirmation text, and recording details, the line, its length, and when you made it, are encrypted on your device before they are uploaded. The recording audio files themselves stay on your device and are not uploaded by sync. You can delete the service copy from the app's sync settings. See the data deletion guide.
Purchases
Kind to Me Premium is available as a monthly plan, a yearly plan, or a one-time unlock. Apple or Google processes the payment and provides purchase information. The app uses RevenueCat to fetch available products, validate receipts, restore access, and check whether Premium is active.
JPott Studios does not receive your payment-card details. RevenueCat and the app store may process a store receipt, product identifier, purchase status, subscription renewal status, country or storefront information, and an app-user identifier. See RevenueCat's privacy policy, Apple's privacy policy, and Google's privacy policy.
Permissions
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| Notifications | Optional daily reminders that you schedule, up to three. You can decline this, or turn it off later in device settings, and the app still works. |
| Microphone | Record a personal affirmation in your own voice, after you deliberately start recording. Background recording is not enabled. Decline it and the rest of the app still works. |
| Photo library or camera | Only if you choose a profile photo for yourself. The app asks when you start that, copies the picture you pick into app storage, and keeps it on your device. You can skip it and use one of the app's own avatars instead. |
Exports and backups
You can export a backup at any time. Your device then offers destinations such as Files, email, messaging, or cloud storage. JPott Studios does not receive that file.
Kind to Me backup files are ordinary JSON and are not encrypted by the app, and they contain your voice recordings inside them. The audio is embedded in the file itself, alongside readable personal content such as the affirmations you wrote. That means a backup is the one file that carries your voice off your device. Store and send it carefully. Once you save it somewhere, that destination's own terms and privacy practices apply.
When you restore a backup, the app checks each included voice file against a checksum recorded at export, so a damaged file is reported rather than silently restored.
Keeping and deleting data
Local data stays until you delete items, use an in-app clear-data control, replace data during a restore, or remove the app's data from your device. Operating-system backups and any copies you export are controlled by you and the platform you chose.
If you enabled sync, the app provides a control to delete the service copy. See the data and account deletion guide.
Children
Kind to Me is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. JPott Studios does not knowingly use the app to solicit personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided account information through sync, contact us so we can investigate.
