Kind to Me comes with a library of kind lines to hear and say, short guided routines and, with Premium, your own voice too, so you can start in a minute without writing or recording anything first. ThinkUp is built around recording your own affirmations and playing them back over music, which suits you if a long personal listening track is what you want.

Prices and app details here are as of October 2026.

Kind to Me or ThinkUp: what is each one built around?

Both apps help you use affirmations on purpose. They start from different places.

Kind to Me starts with the line. It arrives ready, in a tone you pick, and you read it, hear it or say it back. Recording your own voice is an extra you can add with Premium.

ThinkUp starts with you as the speaker. You choose or write affirmations, record them, add a picture to each one and listen back with music.

What makes Kind to Me different?

You can start in a minute. Recording 20 to 40 affirmations is a lovely project, but it is a project. On a flat Tuesday, most of us would rather open an app and be handed one believable line.

Kind to Me’s lines are written to be believable on an ordinary day, in a gentle, balanced or direct voice you choose. There are 20 collections for different kinds of days, such as Calm, Work and Sleep. Guided routines run from 3 to 10 minutes, and today’s line takes under a minute. If you are wondering whether this kind of practice does anything, our guide on whether affirmations work explains what is known and what is not.

Say It With Me gives you a line to say out loud, with a pause so you are not racing. Island Warmth is an optional set of Jamaican Patois lines with plain-English meanings. There is a home screen widget, up to three reminders a day, and it works with no account.

And your own voice is still there. With Premium, Kind to Me lets you write lines and record them in your own voice, and those recordings stay on your phone. Premium costs $6.99 a month or $39.99 a year, as of October 2026. Kind to Me offers encouragement, not therapy.

Where is ThinkUp stronger?

If you want a long personal listening track, ThinkUp is the more specialised tool. Its own help page suggests choosing 20 to 40 affirmations, recording them and listening with headphones daily. You can add a picture to each one and a music track behind your voice, and on Premium you can use your own music. It also lists Apple Health Mindful Minutes and Apple Watch cards.

Kind to Me does not mix music in and is not a recorder first. If a recorded track over music is what you are after, ThinkUp is closer to that.

Do you want kind words first, or to be the voice?

What you start with when you open it.

Kind to MeThinkUp
Kind words ready for youYour own voice and music
Our view, not a measurement.

Think about the last time you tried to say something kind to yourself. Maybe you were in the bathroom with the door shut, whispering a line you had half written in your head. That is the ThinkUp instinct: your words, your voice, on repeat.

Or maybe you were at the kettle, a bit flat, not up to composing anything. You wanted one gentle sentence handed to you first. That is the Kind to Me instinct: a kind line, ready, and then your own voice if you feel like it.

Neither is the better person to be. A recording suits an evening when you have energy and want to build something. A ready line suits the day when you have none.

Neither app is medical treatment, and neither promises sleep. If you want evening ideas, see our guide to bedtime affirmations.

A start-tonight plan that works in either app

You do not have to decide forever. Try this tonight.

  1. Write three lines that sound like something a good friend would say to you. Keep them short and true, such as “I did enough today.”
  2. Say each one aloud, once. Notice whether it sounds like you.
  3. Tomorrow, say them again before you pick up your phone for anything else.

If writing three lines felt hard, a ready-made library can help you find words that fit, and our guide to writing your own affirmations can help with that part. Kind to Me is a good place to start.

Fair comparison note: ThinkUp is a product name or trademark of its owner. JPott Studios is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by it. What we say here comes from its own pages and public store listings, read in October 2026, and may have changed since, so please check the source before you decide. Lines marked “our view” are our opinion.

Kind to Me and ThinkUp: your questions

Can I record my own affirmations?

Yes, in both. In ThinkUp it is the core feature. In Kind to Me you can record your own voice with Premium, and the recordings stay on your phone.

Do I have to write anything to get started?

Not in Kind to Me. It comes with ready lines in 20 collections, so you can read, hear and say a line straight away. You can write your own later with Premium.

Can I add my own music?

ThinkUp’s help page says Premium lets you use your own music, from your Apple Music downloads. Kind to Me does not mix in music, so it suits a quiet routine.

Is it free?

Both start free. Kind to Me Premium is $6.99 a month or $39.99 a year, as of October 2026. For ThinkUp’s current prices and free limits, check its App Store page, because they differ between its listing and its help pages.

Which is better for sleep?

A recording over music suits a bedtime listening track, which is what ThinkUp is built for. Kind to Me’s routines are short and spoken. Neither is medical treatment.

Is there an Android version?

Yes for both. ThinkUp’s website says iPhone and Android, and Kind to Me is on iPhone and Android.

Do my recordings leave my phone?

In Kind to Me, voice recordings stay on your phone, and everything works without an account. For ThinkUp, check its privacy information in the app or on its website, because we could not confirm it.
