Kind to Me vs I Am: which affirmations app fits you?
Kind to Me is built for saying a line back, hearing it and making it your own. I Am is built to put a fresh line on your screen. Here is how they compare, and who each one suits.
Kind to Me is a daily affirmations app built for what happens after you read the line: you can say it back with a quiet beat, hear it, write your own lines and, with Premium, record them in your own voice. I Am is a well-known app that puts a fresh line on your lock screen, widgets and watch, which suits you if you mostly want to glance at a line.
Prices and app details here are as of October 2026.
Kind to Me or I Am: which one fits you?
If you want to practise your affirmations, not only read them, Kind to Me is the closer fit. If you want a new line to appear on a screen you already look at, I Am does that well.
Both are free to start, and both are on iPhone and Android. Here is the side by side, with Kind to Me first.

What makes Kind to Me different?
A lot of affirmations feel fake. If a line says something you do not believe, it bounces straight off. Kind to Me starts from that worry. The lines are written to be believable on an ordinary day, in a gentle, balanced or direct voice that you choose. You can read more about why this matters in our guide on whether affirmations actually work.
Kind to Me in numbers
From the app and its website, as of October 2026.
Then it asks a bit more of you, kindly. Say It With Me gives you a line to say out loud, with a quiet beat so you are not rushing. Guided routines run from 3 to 10 minutes, and on a busy day today’s line takes under a minute.
Your own words matter most. With Premium you can write lines in your own words, record them in your own voice and build a short routine from three to five of your lines. Recordings stay on your phone. If you would like help with the writing, our guide to writing your own affirmations walks through it.
Voice works like this. Read-aloud is off until you switch it on in Settings. Lines in routines, Say It With Me and Island Warmth have voice clips made with voice software, and other lines are read by your phone’s own voice. Island Warmth is an optional set of Jamaican Patois lines, many built on old proverbs, each with a plain-English meaning.
It works without an account. Kind to Me offers encouragement, not therapy.

Where is I Am stronger?
I Am is much bigger and has been around for years. Its App Store page shows a 4.8 rating from 736K ratings (as of October 2026). It puts a new affirmation on the iPhone lock screen each day, has many daily intentions to choose from, and lives on more devices: iPad, Apple Watch and iMessage as well.
If your main wish is for a kind line to be there whenever you glance at your watch or phone, with no practice step, that is where I Am is stronger.
Do you want to glance at your line, or say it?
Where each app sits
What you do with the line after you see it.
Picture a Tuesday morning. The kettle is on, you are half awake, and the phone is propped against the bread bin. With a glance-first app, the line is just there. With Kind to Me, you open the line, breathe, and say it once, out loud, to the kitchen.
The glance costs almost nothing. The saying takes a few more seconds, and many people find that is what makes the words land. Saying a line aloud is also a quick way to check whether you believe it. If it sounds false in your own voice, you can pick a gentler one.
Our guide to making affirmations a daily habit has ideas for either style.

Choose Kind to Me if, choose I Am if
Which one is for you?
Find the sentence that sounds like you.
Choose Kind to Me if
- You want to say each line out loud, with a quiet beat built in.
- You want to write your own lines, or record them in your own voice, with Premium.
- You like a plain-spoken tone you can set to gentle, balanced or direct.
- You would like optional Jamaican Patois proverb lines with plain-English meanings.
- You want it to work without creating an account.
- You use Android, or want a desktop version in your browser.
Choose I Am if
- You want affirmations on your lock screen, widgets or Apple Watch without opening an app.
- You use an iPad or want your affirmations in iMessage.
- You mostly want to read a line, not practise it.
How can you try Kind to Me in three days?
Keep it small. Use the same moment each day, like the kettle or the bus stop.
- Day one: open today’s line and read it once. Notice whether it sounds like something you could believe.
- Day two: turn on read-aloud in Settings and listen to the line, then say it out loud, slowly.
- Day three: try a short guided routine, or switch the tone to gentle or direct if the lines felt too soft or too blunt.
At the end, ask which part you kept doing without pushing yourself. If it was the saying, Kind to Me is likely a good fit. If you only ever wanted to see the line, a glance-first app like I Am may suit you better, and that is a perfectly good answer.
Fair comparison note: I Am is a product name or trademark of its owner. JPott Studios is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by it. What we say here comes from its own pages and public store listings, read in October 2026, and may have changed since, so please check the source before you decide.
